Heres the Deal...
So I have been in Boulder for about a year and a half, going to school at Naropa University. I can see that the music
scene areound here is decent, and varying in degrees. The one style of music that I don't see very often around here, is metal,
or just heavier music. I come from cleveland Ohio, and it is one of the biggest metal areas in the U.S. Granted, I'm not really
into NU metal so much, but I do like alot of heavier bands, my influences include:
Acid Bath Nile
Snot Ton
Dying Fetus Down
System of a Down Meshuggah
Tool
Pig Destroyer
Origin
Mushroomhead ( if you havnt heard em
Slipknot
check em out)
Psychroptic
just to name a few...
The locust
But that is not the only style I'm into. I also am very into
Fingerstyle Guitar Classical
Tom Waits Ragtime
Beck
Broadway Theatre
Pink Floyd Barbershop
Led Zeppelin Folk
Pat Kirtly Bluegrass
Dream Theatre Singer Songwriter etc.
So as you can see, I really enjoy most styles of music, except Gangsta rap, and the country music that has arisen
in the past 30 years.
Right now, I will tell you about myself and what I do. I am 21 years
old, I am a singer/screamer/composer/guitarist/bassist/lyracist/ and I like to add weird and interesting aspects to my music.
I have played guitar for a little under a decade, and I mostly play acoustic guitar, but thats only for solo performance.
My heart really lies in playing with a band. I have been singing my entire life, and screaming for about 6 years. I am a recording
studio engineer at my school, I record spoken word artists, singer songwriters, bands, and all of my own musical creations.
Thats just a bit, I'll move on.
The Idea
What I am looking for most in a band, is absolutley serious musicians, who have open minds, good technical skill,
tons of creativity, and respect for the world around them. I have been in many bands, and their is nothing worse than having
stubborn assholes butting heads all the time. What I beleive is needed is the respect for all that is brought to the table
and lots of discussion with all aspects of the music. I feel that having respectful relationships with your band members can
really make a band go far. And that is the ultimate goal, to go far. I wan't to have a band who has the dedication to live
the dream. I want to make a living off of our music, and share it with the world.
The Style
Like I said before I am into alot of different styles of music, and I enjoy playing most styles. The fact
of the matter is, that alot of people are into alot of different styles, but not interested in playing them. I am looking
for bright intelligent musicians of all sorts... Guitarists, drummers, bassists, violinists, banjo players, flute players,
concertina player, bagpipes etc. the point is not to limit the amount of creativity by a genre. I really enjoy heavy metal
and death metal, but that doesn't mean that in the middle of a song you can't have classical, or bluegrass. My whole Idea
is to mix as many different styles and ideas with heavy music as possible. To create a new breed of metal. It is very important
I might add, that everyone who is in the band, should be able to take over multiple roles.. like the guitarist moves to keys,
or the singer moves to bass, or the drummer moves to violin. If we are going to create this new style, to limit the amount
of people needed, everyone needs to be able to do multiple roles.
The Goal
To put it into a nutshell: a band who is respectful to eachother and everyone around them, creative and not
influenced by the marketing of mainstream music. Wanting to create music that is unique and incredible. Creating a family
out of the band.
